How to Become a Saint

RE: Letter to RALPH
"I've asked my spiritual director to show me how to become a saint."

Dear Lolita:

Deacon Joseph Jolin says he wants to be a saint and wants to know the appropriate books to read, in French or in English.

First, he should look for a good translation of Dostoyevsky's The Brothers Karamazov. Pay special attention to Alyosha, brother of the fiendish Ivan.

By all means, he should read La Peste by Camus, to study the good Catholic father's reaction to multiple deaths of innocent children.

Finally, he would do well to read and reread Miss Lonelyhearts by Nathanael West. This will give him needed instruction of what comes to those in this time, in this culture, who strive to practice sainthood.

RALPH:

is this guy for real? that's what i'd like to know.
also don't forget to add intense astronaut training.
that really gets the saint juices up and running in a body.

also, he should eat wheaties, daily, or just a lot of fiber;
no saint worth their weight walks around with a congested colon.

He should also probably check out Lady's Nights at Lou's in North Park.
$2 you-call-its and an amazing jukebox and talking dartboard!
saintly!
