The Guides are the best evidence of the incredible range and quality of KRAB's programming. They also provide correction to the many second hand stories circulating that the programming was free-form streaming with "music selected at the whim of the DJ". From 1963 to 1969 guides were published fortnightly, after which they became monthly. Several different formats were explored. (10)
There is some dispute as to when the guides started: In Guide Nbr 200, Aug 1970, Greg Palmer wrote that the first guide was for the period Jan 7 to 13, 1963. The bound edition was at his fingertips, so he should have known.
Complicating this, however, in The Radio Papers Lorenzo attributes the essay in the Feb 11, 1963 guide to "The First Program Guide". Perhaps the essay of Jan 7 was repeated in the Feb 11 guide? What are we to believe? The earliest numbered guide we have is Nbr 14, Jul 4, 1963.
